Description: This local organization works to “break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through affordable housing, employment, health care, and education.” Project HOME has been a great partner to the Young Heroes Program in past years and is a leader in advocacy and public policy changes in Philadelphia.
National Coalition for the Homeless – nationalhomelessness.org
Description: The National Coalition for the Homeless is a network of people who are currently experiencing or who have experienced homelessness, activists and advocates, community-based and faith-based service providers, and others committed to a single mission: To end and prevent homelessness while ensuring the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness are met and their civil rights protected. Students can browse the website for up-to-date facts and statistics about homelessness, in addition to contributing causes and resources for further investigation. They also outline why they advocate for trauma-informed care to be included in polices regarding homelessness. Appropriate for grades 4-8.
Brae’s Brown Bags – braesbrownbags.org
Description: This organization was founded by one of the Young Heroes featured in our curriculum: Braeden Mannering. His organization not only provides support for his local community, but works to help other communities implement their own programs and supports.
