We have officially posted a Virtual Action Phase Resources page, including a “Taking Digital Action Starter Kit”, to help support your students' action efforts while at home. Included in this resource guide are ways in which students can participate in civic action using media. Some examples of this include Letter to a Decision Maker, Targeted Social Media, Digital/Print Posters, Presentations, Online Petitions, Virtual Volunteering, and more. Using this resource is a good step in moving forward with your Social Action Project while schools are still closed.

As the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) continues to impact people around the world, the National Liberty Museum and the Young Heroes Outreach Program are carefully monitoring information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health and will make decisions about continued operations based on their guidance. In order to prioritize the safety and health of you, your students, and our staff, we will be taking appropriate action.

Based on Dr. Hite’s announcement today, we understand that all Philadelphia District Schools will be closing for the next two weeks. During this interim period, we plan on continuing to support and assist you and your students in all ways possible. We are happy to meet with you over video chat during this time and will be using GoToMeeting as our satellite platform for all video meetings. We will be sending a video link that will ask you to download the app directly on to your computer for teachers who wish to meet during this time. The team will also continue to be available via email and phone. For those schools that are remaining open, YHOP will be going satellite starting on Monday, March 16th until March 27th. We will not be going into the classrooms for those two weeks and will be using GoToMeeting as well for all video visits.

We will be looking to extend our March 27th Action Project Plan Form deadline for some schools, depending on the school’s needs. Please reach out to your Outreach Educator if you feel that you cannot meet the deadline. For many of our schools, you should still be able to meet the deadline as you are already well on track to turn in the Action Project Plan. We urge you to please try to turn in your project plans by the March 27th deadline so that you are still on track to finish your Social Action Projects by the end of the school year. Your Outreach Educator will be reaching out to you individually and providing ongoing support in order to ensure this does not slow down the Action Phase. The team will continue to update you on any changes and extensions as we move forward.
